As you’re decorating for the holidays this season, don’t feel the need to stick with the basics. These décor trends may not be the norm, but they’re just as good at spreading holiday cheer!

Go vintage

Don’t ditch your store-bought ornaments and decorations just yet—but try mixing them in with vintage or homemade ones, too! Crafty handmade tree-toppers, paper mache ornaments and traditional popcorn garland are fun to look at and can get the whole family involved in the decorating process. If you opt for handmade decorations, try continuing the look with burlap gift wrap or homemade gift tags.

Décor by theme

We’ve been seeing this trend a lot lately: entire areas of a home’s interior or exterior devoted to one specific theme. Some people opt for the traditional Santa Claus or Snowman themes, but others branch out and do ideas specific to them. Whether it’s dogs, cats, country charm or classic elegance that you want to honor with your holiday theme, this is one trend that can take your home’s décor to the next level.

Color scheme switch-up

We love the traditional red and green, but other color schemes—like whites and blues, neutrals or pastels—can look just as great during the holidays. Carry over whatever scheme you choose to your gift wrap and tableware for a unified, put-together look.
