All over Central Florida, we’re in that great time of year when the temperatures are experiencing a cool-down—for outdoor activity lovers, this means the chance to get out and enjoy the weather without having to worry about humidity and overheating. If you have an itch to get outdoors this season, try your favorite activities at one of these fun (and nearby!) locations:

At Ferndale Preserve, not only are you able to hike a two-plus mile trail (with a 112 feet change in elevation over just one half mile!)… you’re able to soak in some of Central Florida’s most scenic and untouched views. Ferndale Preserve is situated along the western shore of Lake Apopka, where you will find spectacular panoramic views of Central Florida’s largest lake. The hiking trail here is on rough sand and doesn’t offer too much shade, so while it may not be perfect for every hiker or outdoors enthusiast, it’s definitely a worthy option to consider on a sunny, cool-weather day.

For a shadier trip that’s easier on the feet, Trimble Park offers a unique experience as well. Located between Lake Beauclair and Lake Carlton, this park has campgrounds, boat ramps and a 1.3 mile trail well-suited to all ages. Take a leisurely stroll or fast-paced hike through the jungle-like atmosphere here, surrounded by ancient oaks and cabbage palms (to name a few), before stopping for lunch at the picnic area or cruising on the lake.

If a hands-on adventure is what you’re looking for, the Wekiwa Springs State Park offers plenty of activities for every type. Canoe or kayak on the Wekiwa River, go hiking or biking on the park’s 14 miles of trails, or go horseback riding against a natural backdrop. You’ll benefit from visiting the park during the winter months, as later on in the year it can get quite busy here!
